When it comes to spending quality time with your other half, a romantic weekend is always a winner – but sometimes a shortage of annual leave or peak season prices can make travelling abroad seem like a distant dream.

So, why not explore something a little closer to home?

A few weeks ago, Visit Jersey reached out about a new campaign they were running. They’re dubbing Jersey as the #theislandbreak and after spending three days exploring last week, I can certainly see why.

Where on earth is Jersey?

Jersey is located in the English Channel, a body of water between England and France. Of the eight inhabited islands, Jersey and Guernsey are the most well-known, with Jersey being the larger of the two. I’ve popped a little map below, so you can see exactly where it is – Jersey is marked with the red tab.

How to get there?

From London, EasyJet, FlyBe and British Airways offer direct flights to Jersey, which take less than an hour and start from £30 each way. Jersey can also be reached from Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Doncaster, Southampton and Liverpool Airports so is super accessible wherever you are in the country. If flying isn’t for you, Condor Ferries operates from Poole and Portsmouth, with a journey time of four hours.

We flew from Luton with EasyJet as it was the quickest/most convenient journey from where we’re based. I can’t stress how easy the journey was!

Flying into Jersey, it’s hard to believe you’re on an island off the coast of France. The water is so clear that if it wasn’t for the fact that our flight from London took less than an hour, I would think we’d landed in Croatia.

Arriving at the airport, we headed straight to the Hertz desk to pick up our hire car. Jersey may only be 5 miles long and 9 miles wide, but this little island has plenty to offer. To ensure you make the most of your trip, I would definitely recommend hiring a car.

Luxury Accomodation in Jersey

If you’re looking for a five-star luxury guest house experience, then I’ve got just the place for you! Banjo is a former Victorian Gentleman’s Club with four individually decorated bedrooms on the second floor. Located in the heart of the city, next to St Helier’s historic market, this hotel makes a great base for your first trip to the island.

I couldn’t believe our luck when we were shown to our room for the night and have been so excited to share my experience with you guys! The Ernest suite is a north facing bedroom with views over the St Helier. The large room was separated into a lounge area and bedroom. Oh and don’t even get me started on the en suite! The bathroom was beautifully decorated with a waterfall shower, HUGE bath and The White Company mini toiletries, bath robes and fluffy white towels.

I’m by no means an expert, but I don’t think any hotel can truly be called luxury without some special touches. The Nespresso coffee machine, BOSE music centre and complimentary mini-bar that is restocked daily all added to our incredible experience at Banjo.

Because of its city centre location, the hotel has no dedicated car park, but has a drop off zone outside the front entrance. Initially, I was a little worried about finding a place to park but we soon discovered multiple long-stay car parks dotted around the city.

If you do decide to stay at Banjo, I would recommend downloading the PayByPhone parking app. We kept the car in Minden Place car park overnight, which was a short 5 minute walk from the hotel. Don’t worry too much about parking costs as you’ll be out exploring most of the day and you don’t pay after 5pm – we spent less than £5 on parking over the 3 days!

Rooms at Banjo start from just £150 per night. You can book your stay here.

A Romantic Weekend Itinerary

Friday Afternoon in Jersey

Catch an afternoon flight, pick up your rental car and head to your hotel admiring the beautiful coastline on-route. If you’re feeling peckish, Portelet Bay Cafe is a great pit stop for amazing pizza in the most beautiful location.

Check into your hotel and unpack. Head to Jersey Crab Shack for a fresh seafood dinner in a friendly, relaxed restaurant. The St Helier site is only a 2 minute walk from Banjo, so no need to drive! To really indulge try the shellfish platter, or if you’re feeling adventurous why not try the cracked spider crab?

Head back to Banjo, make full use of the complementary mini bar and get an early night so you’re ready to explore tomorrow!

Saturday in Jersey

AM:

Is there anything better than breakfast in bed? I don’t think so. Banjo offers a homemade continental breakfast with the most delicious pastries, fruits and yogurt. The best bit? It’s delivered to your suite at a time that suits you, so you can enjoy it laying in bed. Once you’re fuelled for the day ahead, hop in your hire car and head South West to La Corbière – a breezy vantage point overlooking the rugged Corbière Point and iconic lighthouse.

La Corbière lighthouse is set on an island out at sea, so if you’re planning to walk the causeway make sure it’s low tide!

From here, drive north along St Ouen’s Bay to Faulkner Fisheries. This family owned business serves up barbecued local seafood from within a converted WW2 German Bunker. Enjoy your freshly prepared lobster with a glass of local wine or beer, overlooking the bay!

After lunch, continue your road trip north, stopping to explore the caves at Plémont Bay. The steep steps down to the beach are not for the faint hearted, but definitely worth the trek! At low tide climb through the waterfall to the caves behind and admire the sandy beach.

PM:

After a jam-packed morning, it’s time to switch off and relax. Check into Hotel De France’s luxurious 17,000 sq ft wellness spa and pool complex. Sunbathe on the terrace (if you’re lucky with the weather), or dip in and out of the four pools, steam room and sauna before heading for a treatment.

If it’s quality time you’re after, Ayush Spa has a duo treatment room, where you can enjoy spa treatments side by side. Their portfolio of treatments have been adapted to maintain the Spa’s Ayurvedic philosophy (a form of therapy originating from India). We both enjoyed the 55 minute Ayush Full Body Massage (£85) – the combination of oils and western massage techniques was pure bliss! I also just wanted to mention our masseuse Mina who instantly put us at ease and is a credit to Ayush! You can browse all the available treatments here.

Dinner at The Atlantic Hotel was quite easily the highlight of our entire trip. Head Chef Will Holland and his team hold 3 AA Rosettes, and I can see why – Ocean Restaurant is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at! The Tasting Room boasts the ‘ultimate gastronomic experience‘ and the seven course tasting menu with wine pairings certainly delivered that. The modern British menu celebrated local Jersey produce beautifully! While this experience will set you back £150, if you’re looking to spoil your significant other for a special occasion it’s a no-brainer! Browse the sample menu here.

Sunday in Jersey

AM:

Enjoy Banjo’s continental breakfast one last time, and pack up ready to check-out at 11am.

Explore the Jersey War Tunnels – a network of tunnels built during the German occupation in the Second World War. Today it’s used to tell the compelling stories of the invasion, occupation and liberation of Jersey through the eyes of the islanders. It’s a sobering experience but well worth a visit if you’re planning a trip to Jersey!

Head to The Hungry Man for an al fresco lunch overlooking Rozel Bay.

I love that you never have to travel far to visit any attractions in Jersey due to the island being so small, and parking is so cheap too! We had a little time to kill before our flight and decided to pay Jersey Zoo a visit. The word “Zoo” is a little misleading as the 32 acre site is really a conservation trust started by Gerald Durrell. Even a quick visit opens your eyes to the shocking numbers of endangered species, but it is heartwarming to witness first-hand some of the efforts made to preserve these incredible animals.

PM:

Return to Jersey airport, drop off your hire car and begin the quick journey home.

A few days is all it takes to fall in love with Jersey. In fact, I think I fell in love the second I stepped off the plane. A huge thank you to the lovely team at Jersey’s Tourism Board for arranging such a perfect escape for Bobby & I. I hope this post has inspired you to explore closer to home!

*Our trip to Jersey was paid for by Visit Jersey in exchange for this blog post. As always, all opinions are my own.

You had me at complimentary mini-bar 😀 But really, what a gorgeous place for a quick getaway, and the landscapes look amazing.

I have to admit, I’m terrible at geography and had no idea where Jersey is- for some reason my mind went to America but I guess that’s New Jersey haha! Your photos are stunning and you definitely got lucky with your room- it looks like you had a great stay! Soph – https://sophhearts.com x

This trip sounds amazing. This is probably quite dumb of me, but for some reason I didn’t expect the water in Jersey to be quite so blue. The caves look absolutely incredible, gorgeous photos! Your suite looks amazing too, totally agree that the little extras are what sets somewhere apart X
